A Whole New Way to Soldier On
Soldier On:
To continue, even when things seem impossible. To courageously resist bowing to discouragement, or disappointment, or even abandonment, to keep marching toward the light, even if things seem to be darkening all about the march. To Keep On Keeping On, spirits up, attitude good, with encouragement for compatriots on the march. Soldier On!

“Soldier On” is Ludwig von Beethoven, unable to hear the music he dearly loves, inescapably deafening, but indefatigably creating genius music he can only hear within the confines of his tortured mind, working, struggling, and improving, continuously improving. This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is Sam and Frodo heading out into the wilderness alone, with absolutely no promise or guarantee of success (and seemingly, absolutely no chance for anything other than utter failure), with enemies incredibly powerful spread out before them resolute to stop and kill the two defenseless marchers, but Sam and Frodo courageously determined to see this thing through, marching, marching, and indefatigably marching. This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is the incredibly valiant three hundred Spartans at Thermopylae dashing headlong into 1,000-to-one odds, and when threatened that the enemy arrows will be so numerous as to blot out the very sun, to reply with a grin: “Then we will fight in the shade!” This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is the faith-inspiring testimony of Joni Eareckson-Tada who suffered life-shattering quadriplegia as a teenager and overcame hopelessness to provide a message of hope and love to the whole world. Through her personal example of courage, artistry and faith in God, she has encouraged countless others in their tribulations and fiery trials. This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is the proboscis-challenged Cyrano Hercule Savinien de Bergerac, with wit and verve standing strong against 100 swords to protect a lowly poet whose only crime was to tell the truth, and when cowardly struck down by an unseen assassin dropping a log on his head, to still stand up to death, ever a fierce and passionate soldier, nose to nose, sword drawn, sense of humor gloriously intact, and great panache unsoiled, to the very end. This is “Soldier On.”

“Soldier On” is the persevering Apostle Paul, beaten repeatedly, left for dead, ridiculed and spat upon, chased, hunted, bounties on his head, persistently marching onward, in sickness and tribulation, with no financial compensation, marching, marching, all over the ancient world, changing the Planet Earth for all time with the Gospel of the Messiah; marching with eternal faith to his very death. This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is the spirit of the heroic passengers of Flight 93, strangers to each other who instantly bond into a Fellowship of Freedom, who could have sat weeping with eyes tightly closed to impending death, but instead rose as one unified fist raised against the monsters of the modern world, to fight with courage and save the lives of potential victims in the thousands. “Soldier On” is the amazing guts of Aron Ralston who amputated his own arm with a pocketknife instead of surrendering to thirst, starvation, and the wilderness. And a few years before Bill Jeracki had to make a similar grim decision in amputating his own leg for survival. These men made brutal decisions against their very bodies in order to live. This is “Soldier On.”
“Soldier On” is Crown Prince of Troy, Hektor, even after dreaming of his own death, with bravery and resolve departs the protective walls of Troy to face down the invulnerable glory-hound and demigod Achilles, hand to hand and head to head. For love of family and country Hektor stands bravely in a battle he has no chance to win, unflinchingly looking death in the eye. This is “Soldier On.”
